Autonomous Docking

KLM and Schiphol are looking for solutions that can automatically secure aircraft wheels during docking, reducing the need for ground staff to manually place and remove wheel chocks. The goal is a safe, reliable solution that works in real airport operations and can become part of a wider autonomous docking process.

The Challenge

How might we autonomously secure an aircraft after it reaches the stand, as part of a seamless docking process?

We are open to:

  • New approaches to securing aircraft wheels
  • Adaptations of existing robotics or automation technologies
  • Integrated hardware and software solutions

The solution does not need to replicate today’s wheel chocks — we are interested in different ways of achieving the same safe securing function.
